Announcing our new Vice President!

We’re delighted to tell you all that Jane Lewis will be the Vice President of the Nevern Show in 2017, supporting Richard Butler, this year’s President.

Jane is very much following in her family tradition. Her father, Vivian Lewis was President of Nevern Show not once but twice! The first time, in the late 1980s, and secondly in 2012. In 2012, Jane was poised to step in as her Dad was unwell, but in the end it wasn’t necessary. As she says,

Dad was always involved in the Nevern Show even when he was ill. He was proud to be part of the show and I was with him in 2012 ready to step in to help during the day, but he  undertook his duties without the need for me to step in.”

Vivian Lewis retired to Nevern, but had been a frequent visitor to the village before then, coming most weekends and for holidays. As a keen fisherman he got to know many local farmers and was very much involved with the village and with the Show – as his involvement as president on two occasions shows. Vivian sadly passed away in 2012, but not until he had carried out his duties!

Jane, a manager for the Welsh Government’s Regional Learning and Skills Partnership, has a background in marketing, organising food festivals and event management. She is delighted to be renewing her family’s links with the Nevern Show in 2017.

It was an honour to be asked to be the Vice President this year, and I want to be involved and follow in Dad’s footsteps in this way. I’m looking forward to supporting the Show’s President this year, and seeing how things work, before hopefully stepping in to the President’s shoes for next year.

We’re really pleased that Jane is involved in the show, and hope you will all join us in congratulating her!

Time to return the trophies…

As you can imagine, a huge amount of organisation goes in to the Nevern Show each year. One of the tasks that has to be completed is that of gathering in all the cups and trophies that were awarded last year. If you were a winner last year, the time has come to hand back your trophy or cup. it needs to be engraved appropriately, and returned clean and polished ready for the next lucky winner.

You can return your cup or trophy to our Trophy Secretary, Hugh Thomas; alternatively, you can return them to Coast and Country Offices, Market Street, Newport, Pembrokeshire, or to CCF Cardigan, Parc Teifi, Cardigan.

Please can you return your trophy by 27th June!

If you won a trophy at the Nevern Show last year, it should be returned by 27th June

The Nevern Show 2017 is nearly 4 months away!

The Nevern Show 2017 will take place on 9th August 2017. The Committee is working hard behind the scenes to make sure that it’s the best Nevern Show yet, and we’re hoping to welcome even more people than last year – old faces and new, locals and visitors to the area, whether exhibitors, or people who are enjoying the beautiful North Pembrokeshire countryside and coast for a well-earned summer holiday.

As usual, there will be a number of agricultural showing categories, cattle, sheep and horses all taking centre stage. In addition, we’re hoping that many of our younger visitors – and budding handlers of the future – will enter our fun ‘Fur and Feather’ class with their pets: all welcome, from chickens and ducks to rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters!

Alongside our agricultural classes, there’s plenty of competition in the horticultural section. We have a wide variety of classes, and encourage as many people as possible to join in. Whether you make a stunning Victoria Sponge, or brew a delicious bottle of elderberry wine, if your talents lie in wood carving, metal work, or crochet, or you have the greenest fingers around, growing fantastic fruit and vegetables, there’s a class for you to enter! There are also classes specifically for children. More details will be available once the Schedule for 2017 is online.

Our dog show is always a popular attraction too, and there’s plenty of time to get your four legged ‘best friend’ ready for the big day. The show features pedigree classes and ‘novelty’ classes, including ‘Dog the judge would like to take home’, and child handler categories, so all dogs – and their owners – can come along and join in the fun.

We’ve got all sorts of plans, and some exciting new additions to the show which we can’t wait to tell you about, so why not keep in touch with us by liking our Facebook page where we’ll be posting regular updates! For now, we’ll leave you with some images from previous shows!
